Dr. Mahmoud Al-Shazly, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, said that heart surgeries are no longer the same as before and have now become easier, noting that cardiac MRI can be performed to diagnose and evaluate congenital heart defects in adolescents and adults. Cardiac MRI creates three-dimensional images of the heart, allowing the heart’s chambers to be accurately measured.

Al-Shazly added, during his meeting with the journalist Angie Anwar, on the “Heliopolis” program broadcast on the “etc” channel today, Sunday, that the success rate of heart surgeries in children and newborns reaches 97%, and the success rate of open-heart surgeries in adults reaches 95%, indicating Until he performs two to six open-heart surgeries on children, newborns, and adults per day.

The consultant cardiac surgeon pointed out that after birth, the doctor may suspect that the child has a congenital heart defect if his growth is delayed or changes appear in the color of his lips, tongue or nails. The doctor may hear a heart sound when examining the child’s heart using a stethoscope. Most heart murmur sounds do not indicate a heart defect and do not pose a risk to the baby’s health.
